A Cross Post (Kinda)

27 08 2008

There was talk of titles over at TextFIGHT and I posted about the title for this album.

I’m thinking of “Past Closing.”

The song Past Closing is about staying around a place past closing time, but also about being long-lived/immortal and staying around past your natural, ah, closing time, and also about your personal history, your past, closing in on you even though you want things to be different now. I think that might fit a lot of what’s on the album, now that I step back and look at the songs.

Of my three albums so far, one had a title track (Obituary), one had a title that just generally spoke to the album’s subject matter (Chimera), and one had a title that was drawn from the lyrics of a song, rather than a song’s title (Sacrifice.)

I dunno. It’ll be in the back of my mind while we work on the songs.

Hey G – that reminds me… I wanted to give you a head’s up about what I have in mind for that song (Past Closing). The version I have in my head will be a slightly slower tempo and a straighter beat than your demo, so just be prepared for that when you come to play it here because I know you’ve been practicing your songs with specific tempos in mind.

I have two favourite songs on the list, and Past Closing is one of them.

I figure, what with your magic computer, I can probably play at whatever speed and you can mess with it later, if necessary. Also, I can just slide the little tempo bar up or down in GarageBand before I start playing and I’ll be good to go.

In terms of performing it differently (less syncopated in the chorus, maybe?), I’ll just have you hum or sing it the way you’re hearing it and I’ll do my best to match that. Shouldn’t be a problem.
