It was a year ago when Gayleen and I booked off “the next September long weekend” in our iCals for a crazy three day album project. A year seemed so far off back then.
Well, time flew, and here we are. And this weekend, the two of us are indeed heading into my home studio with the ridiculous (yet completely obtainable) goal of recording a whole album in three days.
Gayleen, who is also an accomplished writer, was part of Book Television’s Three Day Novel Contest reality TV show last September long weekend. While we were jabbering back and forth on her blog leading up to her novel contest, someone else chimed in and said we should do the three day album contest next (link). We both have been looking for an excuse to work together for ages. Turns out what we needed was a crazy self-imposed deadline.
Gayleen has done little to no recording and performance with bands, sequencers or production. Piano and voice. Straight up. I’ve never collaborated musically with anyone like Gayleen before, either. Totally new territory.
I have no idea what this album will sound like. I have no guarantee any of this will even work. Logically, none of it should! Yet I’m just totally excited about this weekend, and somehow deep inside I have no doubts at all that what we’ll create this weekend will be awesome. Don’t know why, don’t know how. But it will be.
